Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy is a self empowering process where the care seeker, with the help of the yoga therapist, implements a personalized evolving yoga practice. The personalized practice will include an appropriate selection of tools from among the wide range of possibilities Yoga has to offer. It is a multi dimensional approach which includes physical, energetic, mental, behavioral, and emotional.

Some of the most important tools of Yoga are:

  • Postures (asanas)

  • Breath Regulation (pranayama)

  • Meditation (dhyanam)

  • Dietary Choices (ahara-niyama)

  • Chanting (mantra)

  • Visualizations/Affirmations (bhavana)

  • Symbolic Gestures (nyasa)

  • Guided Self-Inquiry (svadhyaya)

What is the difference between yoga class and yoga therapy session?

A general Yoga class focuses on teaching Yoga practices, either in a group or private setting, as a means to explore and create a positive relationship with your body/breath/mind/emotions. You could practise for short term (sometimes a single class) or long term.

However, Yoga Therapy sessions, which is only relevant in an individualized setting, focuses on alleviating your specific illness, reducing symptoms, helping manage disease and improving quality of life. The attention required in the Yoga therapy session is more intense and almost always involves multiple sessions.
